Visiting the Parents

Does anyone else get a little bored when you're visiting the parents? I went over a few weeks ago and decided to bring along a little craft project to work on while I was there. I decided to bring a coloring project since it's easy to color and chat with my parents at the same time. And since I'm still building up my birthday card stash, I thought these candle stickers would be the perfect coloring project.

Black and White Background

Similar to yesterday's black and white appreciation post. Today's cards show a different way to add color to black and white paper. This time, I colored the background with alcohol markers as opposed to the actual flowers.

This time I cased a card by Libby Fens. You can find that original card here.

Black and White Flowers

I've already shared my love for black and white designer paper. It allows an endless world of possibilities. Leave the paper as is, add a little color, add a lot of color. When I first saw Stampin' Up! True Love DSP, I knew I needed to purchase it. As I began using the paper, I realized I loved it so much that I had to order a second set.

I did case Karen's beautiful card that can be found here. But as you'll see, I couldn't just stop with one card and one color.

Fashionably Late

Another set of cards I created back in January for the Krazy Kreations 30 Day Coloring Challenge. I was always taught if I was going to be late, be fashionably late. . . or bring gifts.

Breathtaking Bouquet (Part 2)

This card is very similar to yesterday's so saffron version but I was inspired by Cheryll Miller to add some alcohol markers into the mix. Cheryll's post details multiple techniques for using this stamp set and can be found here.

Flowers for Every Season

I know nothing about flowers but there is a flower for every season if you know where to look. Over the years, Stampin' Up! has offered so many different flower inspired papers and I love that soon papers might feel more spring or more fall. I think you'll see what I mean from these 5 cards which all have similar layouts with very little variations but can't you imagine using them for different seasons?

A Year of Birthdays

When I first saw the Days To Remember Stamp Set, I wanted it . . .  I added it to my shopping list. Then I wondered if I should really get it. Would I only use it to make calendars once a year? Would that be a justifiable expense? Then I saw this picture from the catalog and I had an idea . . . .

Page 18 of 2021 - 2022 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog

. . . a Year of Birthdays. One card for each month. Each month could be slightly themed to the month/season and then I would always have a last minute birthday card. I used only papers from the Pattern Party collection. One side is a pattern with color and the other side is a black and white pattern. I took alcohol markers to those black and white patterns and added a little color, so versatile.

One in A Melon

I found this summery watermelon paper on clearance and just had to buy them. When I unpacked them, I didn't even put them away, I just cut into the paper and decided to craft right there. I used the Call Me Crafty Al Sheetload of Cards free printable that can be found here.

One Sheet Wonder Black and White + Color

By now, you know how much I love a one sheet wonder. But did you know that I love black and white? I find black and white cards to be so classy. And black and white paper has so much versatility. You can leave as is or you can color it. You can add color as the accents. And everything matches with black and white.

I cased this one sheet wonder from Patricia. You can find all the cutting dimensions here.

Happy Birthday to Me

Yesterday was my birthday and as we all know, birthdays during covid times are a bit different, a bit quieter. So I decided to use part of my day to work on increasing my stash of birthday cards. I used a lot of retired products to case a fantastic card by Amy Koenders.

Covid Brides

My heart goes out to all the Brides who had weddings originally scheduled for 2020. Many of those weddings were rescheduled, canceled, and rescheduled again during those first nine months of the pandemic. Some of those weddings are finally being happening this summer/fall. The weddings don't necessarily look the same as originally planned but those Brides finally get to celebrate finding the love of their lives with their closest friends and family.

One of my coworkers is getting married next week. I don't know her very well and was having a hard time figuring out what style of card to make. After doing a quick google search, I found her wedding website. No wedding party details, no signs of a color scheme, all those little things that would inspire a more personalized wedding card. Her wedding website was beautiful though, classic with a twist of modernity. So I did some more googling, this time for cards created by other crafters and found this classic with a twist created by Stasia.

Office Birthdays and Return to Work

So I'm back in the office a few days a week, which means we're back to celebrating office birthdays and I needed some quick cards asap (nothing like waiting till the last minute to make a card).

When searching for inspiration online, I came across the perfect card by the Paper Pixie so I decided to case it. She has all the paper measurements at her site (see link below) and I of course, had to create the card in two different color palette. Do you have a favorite?

LeakyCon

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan... or so I thought. I recently found out there was an entire convention devoted to #Potterheads and it was going to be in Boston, easy to get to from NY so I bought tickets to go. After attending I discovered that yes, I'm a Harry Potter fan but not nearly as big a fan as I thought. There were people there who had these amazing, homemade costumes. There were people there who have attended all ten years of the LeakyCon conventions and there were people there who could quote all the movies and all the books. It was amazing interacting with this community of fans who could understand and appreciate any Harry Potter reference I made.

About a week before the convention I found out that attendees swap ribbons and other items with each other. It was too late to have ribbons made but I finally had an excuse to use all the Harry Potter themed stamps in my possession. I decided to make bookmarks since Harry Potter fans are very likely to still read books. I made the book marks in four colors to represent the four houses of Hogwarts.

A (Blackberry) Bliss(ful) Wedding

On Saturday I went to the wedding of a dear friend. She looked beautiful, the groom wore a velvet tuxedo jacket of deep emerald and the bridesmaids wore blackberry bliss dresses of their choosing.

I didn't know the groom was going to wear green in advance but I knew that the bridesmaids were going to wear blackberry bliss so I knew I had to incorporate that into the wedding card. I also knew that the bride loves desserts.

I was inspired by cards from Linda Cullen and Amy Koenders so I added those cards and links below for your viewing pleasure as well.
