LeakyCon

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan... or so I thought. I recently found out there was an entire convention devoted to #Potterheads and it was going to be in Boston, easy to get to from NY so I bought tickets to go. After attending I discovered that yes, I'm a Harry Potter fan but not nearly as big a fan as I thought. There were people there who had these amazing, homemade costumes. There were people there who have attended all ten years of the LeakyCon conventions and there were people there who could quote all the movies and all the books. It was amazing interacting with this community of fans who could understand and appreciate any Harry Potter reference I made.

About a week before the convention I found out that attendees swap ribbons and other items with each other. It was too late to have ribbons made but I finally had an excuse to use all the Harry Potter themed stamps in my possession. I decided to make bookmarks since Harry Potter fans are very likely to still read books. I made the book marks in four colors to represent the four houses of Hogwarts.

Countdown to Christmas

I love Christmas...the music, the movies, the smell of pine trees, the taste of eggnog...so it would come to no surprise that I'm already embracing the season.

When I saw that Stampin' Up! had an advent calendar, I was super excited because I didn't have an advent calendar but then remembered that I live alone and so if I filled it up, the daily items wouldn't be a surprise. But then I thought that my sister and nephew might enjoy the daily surprises. It could be something they do together, creating new christmas memories and traditions, opening each box together every night.

The calendar was easy to put together. Actually the hardest part was deciding where I wanted to place each square and because I'm a little OCD and didn't want any similar squares near each other, this took multiple tries (after a few attempts of placing the plain squares down, I decided it would be easier to decorate every square and then work on the layout).

I didn't purchase the coordinating stamp set because it wasn't really my style and I wasn't going to stamp any of the squares at first, but decided that the plain squares needed a little extra love. I used stamp sets already in my stash to case the designs displayed by Stampin' Up!.

I can't wait to go shopping for treats to fill the boxes this weekend!! I'll give the calendar to my sister when I see her at thanksgiving. Happy Holidays!!

A (Blackberry) Bliss(ful) Wedding

On Saturday I went to the wedding of a dear friend. She looked beautiful, the groom wore a velvet tuxedo jacket of deep emerald and the bridesmaids wore blackberry bliss dresses of their choosing.

I didn't know the groom was going to wear green in advance but I knew that the bridesmaids were going to wear blackberry bliss so I knew I had to incorporate that into the wedding card. I also knew that the bride loves desserts.

I was inspired by cards from Linda Cullen and Amy Koenders so I added those cards and links below for your viewing pleasure as well.

Craft so you don't have to find a place to store it

A couple of weeks ago, I saw a video about using a 6" x 8" Album to store the stamp sets from the monthly Paper Pumpkin subscriptions. I remembered I had an old (barely used) album at my mom's house so I resolved to get the album and use it instead of ordering a new one. Packed with the album were some old Project Life cards and Stampin' Up! Season of Style Designer Journaling Tags. My initial idea was to actually used the cards and journaling tags to journal my year. I had started January 1, 2015 but I didn't get past January 10th.

So I brought the Album, cards and journaling tags back to my place. I quickly filled the album with the Paper Pumpkin stamp sets but I had no idea where to store the cards and journaling tags.... and then I had an idea, if I used the cards and journaling tags right away, I wouldn't have to find a place to store them.

I got started using the journaling tags (the project life cards are still sitting on my kitchen counter). I spread the journaling tags on my craft desk and just played with the cards, rearranging them all over a few days, until I had projected layouts for all the cards. Side note: I definitely like the current Memories & More Card Packs more than the old journaling tags because the current cards are double-sided, giving me more options for designs and layouts. 15 cards later....

Paper Pumpkin and More...

Happy Sunday!!

Big week for me, I gave notice at my job so this coming friday is my last day. I start the new job the following monday so I'm getting a little anxious, nervous and excited. Best cure for all these emotions (for me) is crafting.

I decided to work on a Stampin' Up! Paper Pumpkin kit that I started ages ago but was just sitting on my table collecting dust. I completed the kit per the instructions but I had all these leftover pieces. I then started sorting the leftovers into toss and store piles, which was harder than it sounded. But why make these tough decisions if I could just make more cards with the leftovers?

I made 11 cards with these leftovers. I even used a retired stamp set I had never used before, getting one step closer to my resolution of using all my stamp sets. I used 2 complete sheets of DSP, making some of these cards a One Sheet Wonder as well. I just love when none of the pretty paper is wasted.

Still more casing

I cased this from the new Stampin' Up catalog that is available to order from on June 3, 2019. I wish I could post a snap of the original inspiration but alas, you have to wait a few more days.

Since this was a fun and easy card, I decided to create it in three different colors.  Which color combo is your favorite?

Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Mango Melody

Blushing Bride, Rococo Rose, Rich Razzleberry

Grapefruit Grove, Terracotta Tile, Night of Navy

Happy (belated) Mother's Day

I would have posted this before Mother's Day but my mom is a papercrafter too, so I didn't want to spoil the surprise.

Now I'm a girly girl, but I'm not a flowery girl. I don't know a thing about flowers except how to kill them so I don't usually purchase flowery items because I know I'll never actually use them. But when I saw the Magnolia Lane Suite from the new 2019 Stampin' Up! catalog, I had to stop myself from buying all of it in one shot. Then because I didn't buy the entire suite, I mixed some other supplies to create mom's card. Here's a sneak peek of a few of the items from that product suite.

Celebrate and CASE

So because I've been so working such long hours lately, on the weekends when I get a chance to craft, I don't have the energy to create something brand new so I've been casing, everything!!

Now I must say, I originally saw the card on Instagram (I follow #stampinup so I can get lots of fun ideas) and didn't look at the designer's blog post till right now. If I had seen it earlier, I might have copied all her measurements exactly.

Make time to craft

So I haven't posted in a while because I started a new job in February and have been too tired to craft much. It was harder than I thought to get back into the groove of waking up early, commuting to work, actually working, then to commute back home and cook dinner. I'm not complaining, just say I felt too tired from the new routine to craft.

Then work got stressful. Suddenly there was too much to do and not enough hours in the day. Then I was really too tried to craft. But last Monday I decided I needed a mental break so I decided to take the following Friday off (the friday of Memorial Day weekend). Most of my bosses were still going to be in the office that day but I was hoping the day would be quieter and I wouldn't get too behind on work.

It was a great day off, I slept in late (meaning my alarm didn't wake me), I did a #mysterystamping challenge on facebook, went to the movies, did some more crafting. I was so relaxed, if only I was independently wealthy so I could do these things every day.

But new resolution, make time to craft. It doesn't have to be every day but often enough. Crafting allows me to relax and not think (read: dwell) about work.

I made quite a few cards this weekend and while I'll post them all over the next few days, here's the one I just finished.  I was inspired by the #mysterystamping challenge I did on Friday because we were encouraged to color in our stamped images. It reminded me how much I like to use my Stampin' Blends. This card is actually CASED from a card on page 131 of the new Stampin' Up! catalog (sorry, can't show you that imagine just yet).

Unwritten Resolutions

So we all have those Resolutions that gone unwritten but you want to accomplish them before the year's over.  For me, that's finishing all the card kits I've bought over the years. Those kits that require no imagination because you can just follow it step by step to end up with a finished product, but which end up being very relaxing because you don't have to come up with the ideas.

As I was working on some of those card kits, I came across the innards of some peel-off stickers and decided I just had to use them.  Well my first attempt to transfer those innards onto white paper ended up getting so messed up, I had to trash it.  But my second attempt worked.  Now what to do with that transferred sticker?

I  turned to MojoSketch for layout ideas and ended up being inspired by Mojo497.

Here's my card, I even copied the green banner across the back.

January #simplestamping Challenge

Stampin' Up! January #simplestamping Challenge

  • Theme: Valentine's Day
  • Supplies: stamps, ink and paper
  • Bonus Material/Tool: punch
So I wanted to make a card for this challenge but I didn't want to make a stereotypical valentine's card in pink or red. I have no issue with pink and red cards, just wanted to add an extra challenge for myself.

Here was my first attempt.

Now this card didn't come out as I had imagined, so I tried again. This second card was actually closer to what I had originally envisioned.

Then I realized I had a little bit of DSP left so I decided to challenge myself further to finish up the paper. Here's what I created with the leftovers.
